Mary CoganMary Cogan is a member of the Executive Forum professional staff and an independent consultant who blends her coaching, consulting, service, sales and market research with experiences in healthcare, technology and telecommunications. Her rich work history culminated in pursuing an experiential advanced degree in Organization Development (OD) at American University and a coaching certificate at Howard University. Mary’s professional and academic journeys then coalesced into the role of Sr. Organization Development consultant. She transforms leader and employee experiences – coaching that impacts behavior and performance, facilitation that moves groups to action, learning the deepens expertise and program/project management that supports organizational efforts.

As a young woman, Mary was a natural mentor and teacher. Her deep listening and ability to create safe space opened up opportunity for trust and transparency. She coached fellow high school students in their studies and her siblings’ youth volleyball team to championship. Today, Mary engages the coaching client in a behavior-based, process-driven approach with an 1) impact on business, 2) acting as coach as a guide, that includes 3) evolving a better understanding of self. Coaching clients comment on the impact of Mary’s thoughtful guidance, deep listening skills and the ability to observe while also helping make meaningful connections. Mary’s ‘cup is filled’ taking others on a journey of many areas: self-discovery, support systems, leadership ability, communication, accountability, problem-solving, decision-making, expectations, goal-setting, anger evaluation and image/presence.

With over 20 years experience, Mary has impacted organizational and service line performance by utilizing proven change models, developing leaders and teams while delivering behavioral-based leadership coaching. Mary also drove system-wide employee engagement initiatives that impacted employees at all levels of the organization. As a trusted advisor, she closely collaborates with Executives, HR business partners and frontline leaders in support of achieving their business objectives.

As an internal practitioner in healthcare, Mary supported 350 new and tenured leaders, including C-level, VPs, Directors, Managers and Team Leads. Her passion to engage with colleagues to understand their issues resulted in a reputation of a trusted and adept partner. Mary has deep, lasting impact on leader/team behavior and performance: improving productive relationships with executives, expediting customer service and recovery, elevating employees’ engagement, addressing work/life balance and driving performance management. As an educator, Mary also teaches the performance dialogue, patient experience, goal setting, crucial conversations and engagement including employee rounding.

As a Board member and volunteer, Mary enjoys driving programmatic efforts and marketing/communications for the Oregon OD Network, and formerly the Chesapeake OD Network and Mautner Project. Mary relishes her time with four generations of family while also bicycling, hiking, zip lining and skiing in the Northwest and around the globe.
